Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way

One of my late preacher-dad's favorite stories was about a New Yorker who walked the streets of the city wearing a "sandwich board." As people passed him, they read, "I am a fool for Christ's sake." Many snickered, of course--until they turned around to read the back of the board, "Whose fool are you?"

Food for thought as we celebrate the fun and foolishness of April Fool's Day tomorrow. Pranks will prevail, and it is fun to make-a-fool or be-a-fool for a day, but ever have someone make fun of your faith? It's no fun--it's called "persecution for righteousness' sake"--and we know very little of it, compared to martyrs who gave (and still give) their very lives for profession of faith in Christ. They--and we--will forever be fools to a world that knows Him not--unless or until they come to know Christ themselves! And by the way, who is the REAL fool, after all? "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God (Psalm 14:1)."

Hold high your head--you're really no fool at all! You've made a wise choice--you've given your life to the all-wise, all-powerful God of heaven and earth! And as Jim Elliot once said, "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose!" Believe it--and have a great day!

Delight in a Word from the Well--a refreshing in the Water of His Word

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nothing things that are, that no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption; that, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord (1 Corinthians 1:27-31)."

Draw from the Well--a prayer for renewing strength for this day

"Lord, the world calls me a fool; the wicked one calls me a fool--if it be for THY Name, then so be it! I proudly take my stand as a Christian; I will honor and serve You today, whether the world does or not--I choose YOU, and it's the wisest choice I've ever made. Help me honor You today, In Jesus Name, Amen."
