It's Monday morning--and you may be singing "The Washin' Machine Blues"--as you recover from the weekend and face a mound of dirty laundry--again!! Now, although we all know that Monday USED to be Grandma's "wash day," we all NOW know that the rest of the week may be too--that washer hardly ever stops in a busy family household!
And neither do you--for if it's not washing, it's ironing (oops...does ANYBODY iron anymore?), or it's cooking, cleaning, taxi-cabbing the kids, mowing the lawn, and a million other things--BESIDES our "real" jobs! AND--like one of my friends who reported a broken-down washing machine with a "bad attitude," we too break down--with bad attitudes--no wonder, superhuman, superpower people that we pretend to be!
Well, I've got a few words for all of us--actually TEN, if you can believe that Peggie can say ANYTHING in TEN words....but add to that some words from HIS Word...and I hope we'll all leave this Monday morning devo singing HIS praises instead of OUR blues!
Top Ten Words for the Washing Machine Blues!
(Overheard in the Lord's Laudromat where His Cleansing Word Really Works!!)
10. I'm a washed-out blue--Lord, do you have any brightener for ME?
"For thou wilt light my lamp; the Lord, my God, will lighten my darkness (Psalm 18:28).
9. Lord, I keep spinning around--and getting nowhere fast!
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth (Psalm 46:10).
8. Need the super wash cycle--the 'whiter than snow' one, Lord!
"Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin...wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow (Psalm 51: 2,7).
7. Here I am, back in the rinse cycle--again and again!
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanseth us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)."
6. Got any stain remover--and what about the wrinkles?
"That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word; that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Ephesians 5:27)."
5. I'm a tough one--got any fruit-scented softeners on hand?
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control; against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22, 23)."
4. Never mind the softener--put me on "delicate WOOL"!
"He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young (Isaiah 40:11)."
3. I'm the PERM Press kind...got a Word for me?
"...forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I PRESS toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:13)."
2. I just need to stay awhile and soak--is that OK?
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint (Isaiah 40:31)."
1. WOW--I am CLEAN! Thank You, Lord!! I'll be back!!
"Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you (John 15:3)."
Now go jump in the dryer, figuratively speaking, and let the Lord warm you up and fluff you out after the deep cleansing of His Word--for it works--even on a Monday morning--or whenever YOUR washing machine works--and I hope it works! Grin...now go forth with a new song--His praises, to be precise--better than the blues--ANY day of the week! Believe it--and have a great day!
