Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way
I love good music--and I heard it, night AND day, in San Diego last week. The EPA conference I attended included wonderful Christian artists-- Babby Mason, Bryon Duncan, John Fischer, Russ Lee, Selah (see links below)--we were blessed! But what about the times when no great Christian contemporary artist is around, when even your CD player's praise-and-worship isn't enough--when YOU personally need a song and there's no one to sing it...or IS there??
Ever have the Lord give you a song in the night? I remember some years ago being distressed over a seemingly impossible situation. In the middle of the night, God put a song deep within my heart--over and over the song played and I knew He was aware and watching--in the middle of the night! What assurance! He CAN give songs in the night...ask Paul and Silas...
Serving the Lord, they get stuck--literally--in the stocks, imprisoned for their faith in Christ and ministry of the Gospel. At midnight in Philippi, there were no Christian contemporary artists, no CDs, no Napster, no TBN! Quite "tied down," they couldn't run for a snack, and they certainly didn't need to listen to the blues on National Public Radio! But that was OK, for they had something better to do! They sang praises to the Lord...only God can put a song in your heart in the night--and He did!
And He'll do the same for you! No matter how dark the horizon, how depressing the happenings in your life right now, God is aware and watching, and He can give you a song in the night. MTV won't play it, it won't even be on the Top Forty of your favorite Christian radio station, but it will resound over and over in your heart--and you'll know He's there!
Now how in the world does something like that happen? It's a "God-thing"--you can't work it up or even select your own song. HE selects the music, the Holy Spirit plays it and you are uplifted in body, soul, mind and spirit. Only the supernatural power of a Risen Lord can do that--and He will. Believe it--and have a great day!
