Backseat drivers are a blessing..."I are one," no matter where in the car I sit, so of course, that comment is prejudicial and from MY point of view! SO when I tell you, I mean, when I YELL you....grin....."WATCH OUT FOR THE TRUCK!" I hope you're listening. Not YOU--personally--but a certain young man in our home taking a driver's ed course this summer!Day One after the class, I got the sixty-four dollar question, "Mom, can I drive?" Gave in and we jerked all the way down our street, into our driveway and safely into the garage. Day Two after the class, we drove around our development. I mean *he* drove and *I* BACKSEAT-drove in the FRONT seat, both safely buckled up! All went fairly well...until I saw the truck.....coming closer and closer. Now that truck was parked on the side of the street and going no where, but Jason has not yet learned alot about "judging distance," so Mom quietly, calmly advised....grin....No, she YELLED, "WATCH THE TRUCK! Stop! Put on the brake! You're going to hit the TRUCK!" Inches away, he stopped. Whew! I will forever carry in my memory that event and that truck...as I smile and thank GOD for my "blessed backseat driving" THAT day!
And we ALL had better thank GOD for another "backseat driver"--no, a "frontseat" driver who rides with us along life's way. There are obstacles and bumps, twists and turns, unexpected critters that dart across the road--and a Guide, thank GOD, who, in the Person of the Holy Spirit, rides with us, giving us guidance, direction, an inner sense of leading, warning, advice. HE is patient--HE doesn't yell--but we'd better listen. He knows the road and its hazards and He knows how to "steer" us through the obstacle courses of life!
So next time, you hear a little whisper telling you to stay or go, to watch or wait....listen! It's that faithful "frontseat" driver helping you, moving right alongside of you this day--and every day. Thank GOD for His presence in our lives, reminding us to "watch out for the truck"--the temptation or testing of the enemy, the distractions along the side of the road, the dangers all around us. It's priceless protection on the REAL road of life...we can't leave home without Him!! Believe it, buckle up, and have a great day!
PS. And if this devo brings back memories of teaching YOUR kids how to drive...pray for me...that I hold out to the end!
Delight in a Word from the Well--a refreshing in the Water of His Word
"...the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said unto you (John 14:26)."
Draw from the Well--a prayer for renewing strength for this day
"Lord, thank You for the Holy Spirit in my life who guides me, who teaches and trains me, who warns and advises me. When I don't know what to do or where to go, help me to be still enough to hear that voice--to know it's going to be ok, I'm going to make it, as long as I listen to Your Spirit's voice deep within my heart. Thank You for BEING there, with me--all the time; now help me to listen--all the time! In Jesus' Name, Amen."
