"Facing the Big 'C' Word!"
My Story - a poem based on a true story by Rosalind Hayward
As the doctor looked gently at me and sadly shook her head
As I heard the words"it's cancer", my heart just filled with dread
I remember just clinging tightly to my husband's hand
I felt my world just crumble, so much darkness grief and pain.
But even through the shock of the diagnosis, when my world had
fallen apart
Deep inside my spirit there was a peace that filled my heart
For my Lord and Saviour had prepared me for this trial I had to face
And He had promised that He would see me through with His abiding grace.
He had given me promises from His word, upon these I knew I could stand
He promised He would always uphold me with His righteous right hand
In His word it says for every battle He would give me strength to fight
And in a dream God showed how He would lead me back into the light.
Yes the months ahead were very hard almost more than I could bear
I had to undergo surgery, chemo, radiation and the loss of my hair
There were days filled with fatigue and weakness, nights clouded with
doubts and fears
There were times of utter darness, there were times I shed bitter tears.
But there were also times of peace and strength, with blessings from
above
There was concern and support given from family and friends who showed
me so much love
There were good days, times of laughter and there were times of rest
God proved that He was right beside me through every trial and every
test.
Now I look at life differently each day is a special gift to me
I thank my Lord for health and strength, for friends and family
I thank Him for bringing me safely through, for keeping me in His care
I thank Him for those who prayed, for there is POWER IN PRAYER.
For those who are facing trials who have burdens hard to bear
You just put your trust in Jesus reach out He's always there
He will take you safely through each storm that comes your way
His Word says He will never leave nor forsake you, He gives strength
for each new day.
