An Encouraging Word for Times Like These
"The Comforter Has Come!"
Everyone seems to be looking for the "comfort zone" these days! USAToday reports that people are forsaking the fancy dinners and desserts and returning to "Mom's meatloaf." It also reports, "If it feels good, and if it helps to calm the jitters, we're doing it: eating, spending money, cleaning..." The sale of teddy bears has increased as wonderful folk are sending "comfort bears" to those whose lives have been torn up by 9-11. Larry King Live ends each night's program with a patriotic number--the whole world is looking for comfort and try to give comfort these days...and we understand!
Most of us would rather curl up in a warm comforter by a warm fireplace than fly on a plane or work in a tall building...no comfort zone there! We read the headlines, watch the Breaking News, read the rumors flying around the Web...there's no comfort there! We can consume all the chocolate ice cream and candy bars we want...and there's no lasting comfort there! Why??
Because the REAL "comfort zone" is not to be found in "things" on Planet Earth. Remember when Jesus went away? He promised His disciples, "I will not leave you comfortless. I will send the Comforter to you." Jesus keeps His promises--and He HAS sent the Comforter...the only One who can truly give us the warmth, the shelter, the peace and the comfort we need.
Needing comfort today? Look beyond the "comfort zones" of earth--try connecting with Heaven--and see what happens! For as you open God's Word, as you pray to Your Heavenly Father, as you play "praise and worship" music on your Sony, something wonderful will happen--the COMFORTER WILL COME...the Blessed Holy Spirit, God's gift to us all. He will fill your heart with comfort the world cannot give--and the world cannot take away! May He comfort YOUR heart this day!
...and that's just a faith-filled thought or two from my heart to yours!
