An Encouraging Word for Times Like These
"It's a Material World...Forever Changed!"
The Thanksgiving Day parade wound itself past the Macy's reviewing stand, stopping long enough for each parade entry to "do their thing"--and this one certainly did! We were reminded that "It's a Material World" with all the glamor and hoopla of what was once a hit-parade special--in "the world that was"!
The hit song, that always rang a little hollow for me, rang a little MORE hollow this year - for you see, we now live in a world that's been forever changed...9-11, in all its horror and tragedy, opened many an eye to see beyond the material world, to look beyond the fashions, the foods, the fun, the frolic of a materialistic world spinning out of control. Pleasure flights were canceled, vacations put on hold, new fashion not now so glamorous--people flocked to churches, synagogues and mosques to find something MORE than material! Material wasn't enough; material didn't satisfy; material didn't have salve for the open wounds--it was empty and worthless in a world forever changed.
Of COURSE! Life IS more than material--it IS more than fashions, foods, fun and frolic--Life--REAL LIFE--is knowing Jesus, the One who NEVER changes--the One who is the same yesterday, today and forever. He's the answer to the hollow and the hurts of humanity right now...as we cope in a world forever changed by the hurts and horrors of 9-11. Let us look to HIM "from whence cometh our help"--He will NEVER EVER change--you can count on it!
Let's change our tune to "Yesterday, Today, Forever, Jesus Is the Same"--for He IS--and He will be there for you--whatever your need today!
...and that's just a faith-filled thought or two from my heart to yours!
"Lord, my world has changed...it's a more sobering, spiritually-inclined world with people looking for healing, help--and hope. I know it is only found in YOU, Lord, the one who never changes. I need that security today--my world needs that security today--help me to pass it on to someone in MY world, in need today, In Jesus' Name, Amen."
