What's Mine Is Mine!?!
A Hurting
Word...
What's one of the first words you or your child ever uttered and was recorded in the baby book for all time? Of course, there was "mama" or "dada"--and the big "N" word--NO!, but this word begins early in our vocabulary of life and continues until our last breath--"MINE!" It's so very human--the personal and possessive sense of ownership that holds on to things--good and bad, spiritual and non-spiritual, silly and important--it's MINE and YOU are not going to get it!
Ever tell God that? Ever hold on so tightly to "what's mine!" that you can't receive "what's HIS"?? Come with me to the Well--bring with you all the "stuff" you're holding onto, and let's see how important it really is--in the light of HIS love! Hint: you won't need a U-Haul truck to hold it; you won't need your boat, your home, your jewelry, your gold coins, your designer clothing, your big screen TV, your new Kodak digital camera or whatever other prize possession you own--but do bring the keys of your heart--the ones you're holding on to so very tightly!

Holding On to the Past
Nothing new under the sun--ask the apostle Paul. His past record, with all its triumphs and terrors, confronted with the bright light of Christ's presence, had to go....all of it. And as he unclutched the good and the bad from his hands, he was able to receive a gift of grace that blesses even us to this day. Paul found a new righteousness that money, education, or fame cannot buy. He found repentance and relief from guilt and shame that money also could not buy. Why? Because he let it all go. "Mine" became the Master's--and it made all the difference in the world!
So what are you holding onto from your past? Your fame? Your fortune? Your failures? Your resentments and unforgiveness? Your sins? Let it go--give it to God, and your hand is then open to receive help, healing and heaven's wealth from the hand of God. He loves you and wants to free you from your past. Hold on to it no longer. Let it go and be set free to serve the Lord!
Holding On to the Present!
Nothing new under the sun--ask the rich young ruler--that is, if you can find him! For he held on so tightly to the things of earth, he had no room to receive the things of heaven--and he walked away. A sad tribute to the loss we experience when we fail to give God our all. He couldn't forsake it all to follow Christ; he held on to the riches of life and lost the riches of Christ. "Mine" never became the Master's--and it made all the difference--a sad difference--in his world!
So what are you holding onto NOW? Oh--that's your U-haul truck--you brought it anyway, cause you couldn't let go. You clutch to the "things" of life so tightly--and the truck is overflowing. But you're not--for there's no lasting satisfaction in the earthly possessions of life. We have (or hunger for...!) humongous houses, cool clothing, trendy tech gadgets, luxury cruises and more--and we're still not content nor would we be content if we had them. Why? Because we hold too tightly to what's "mine" or what I WANT to be "mine"--and that doesn't work! Has God blessed you? Give it back to Him--let Him bless it and use it for the Kingdom--it will make all the difference in your world! But maybe it's not your possessions--maybe it's the problems of your life...guess what? They're not YOURS either--they're God's, and if you give them to Him, He can handle them far better than you anyway--so why not! Let it all go and be set free to serve the Lord!
Holding On to the Future!
Nothing new under the sun--ask the patriarch Abraham. He picked up his tent, with whatever little possessions he had, and hauled it off to nowhere. Had no idea where he was going--all he knew was that everything he had--his past, present and future--belonged to God. God would lead and direct him--so "pack it all up, boys--we're headed for God's country." They did! Abraham's all, including his son, became God's--his future in the hands of a trusted Lord. AND it made all the difference in the world!
So you want to hold on to your future? You can plan it better than God? Don't be foolish--let it go! God has a plan and a design for your life that will blow you away--a blueprint that is blessed by His almighty Hand beyond your wildest dreams. But He can't put it into effect until you give it all away. Don't be afraid to let go of the dreams, desires, ambitions and plans of your heart. God knows all about them--HE probably put them there in the first place, but He wants you to give it all to Him. Let it go! Let GOD be in control--and you'll be set free to serve the Lord!
Now comes the hard part--where are those keys you brought to the Well with you? One by one, to whatever possession, dream, secret, or sin you hold, give them to the Lord. He wants all the keys, so don't hold back....Say "MINE" no more. Give it all to the Master--and He will place all heaven at your disposal. Things that money can't buy--peace, happiness, contentment, joy, love, forgiveness. It doesn't cost a thing--but it costs everything. It costs YOU--your life and your all at the Master's feet, in full surrender. The keys to your past, present and future are in your hand--and what will you do? Listen closely and you will hear HIM say "My child, they're MINE"--surrender them freely and be set free in the power of the Lord!
