Cool Fool!?!

So what does "cool" mean? It USED to mean "slightly chilly"--but now, "CHILL OUT, Mom--you have no idea what it means...and you're not even spelling it rite...it's KEWL, Mom...KEWL!" OK, so I live with a generation that would like to think it "rules," but, sorry, kids. you are NOT in charge, however you spell "cool!"
I'm having abit of fun, but when it's April Fool's Day, you're allowed, and believe it or not, I found a FOOL in the Bible who perfectly fits in with our celebration today. No foolin'! Come to the Well and meet him--BEFORE he walks away!

To Be Rich Is Cool?
Enter the RICH Young Ruler from Bible days. He's decked in the trendy fashion of the day, confident and cool...if there was a "Gap" or "Abercrombie and Fitch (A & F, I understand, if you're talking 'cool')," he'd be there with cash, no Master Card needed! He's rich--and cool--well, isn't money everything? It gets you into the finest circles, makes you socially acceptable, puts jingles in your pocket and joy in your soul...Wait a minute--JOY in your soul? Never...riches won't buy you the joy that's found in Jesus Christ. And that joy comes from following Him. It costs nothing....and it costs everything. Rich Young Ruler, you're walking away?
I'm staying...I've found true riches in knowing and serving Jesus Christ. My bank account may not overflow, my wardrobe may not set the fashion pace, my travel may never include a cruise nor my home be a castle.....but I'm rich in the things money can't buy...love, joy, peace, and a Father who owns the cattle on a thousand hills and meets my needs each day! I'm rich...and I'm not walking away!
To Be Young Is Cool?
Enter the Rich YOUNG Ruler from Bible days. He's physically fit with the vim and vitality of youth; he's wrinkle-free, pain-free, dentures-free, doesn't need tri-focals or that cover-up-the-grey stuff. He's a cool specimen of youth, admired by everyone over 40.....esteemed by Hollywood, sought by the corporate world and a hit in this month's teen magazine. He's got it all--now that's cool. But wait a minute--"youth" AGES--that kingdom mirror will reflect the wrinkles sooner than you think! Jesus Christ is looking for a faithful follower's inner devotion and beauty that will not fade, something the best salon in Jerusalem can't salvage for you. Think about it--surely that's what you REALLY want...uh...you're walking away?
I'm staying...I've been fully accepted by my Lord at every stage of life's aging process. For you see, age and outer beauty have nothing to do with being "cool" in God's eyes. It's all found in following Him within your heart, an inner beauty that time can't steal. It's His love and grace that puts a sparkle in the eye and a smile on the face--something youth can't buy and age can't take away. I'm a KID in the KINGDOM, forever young in spirit and ageless in soul--and I'm not walking away!
To Rule Is Cool??
Enter the Rich Young RULER from Bible days. He's in control and command of whatever he's supposed to control and command--and he likes it. He's a leader and not about to be undercut, downsized, or overruled by anyone. He's the man in charge. He rules--and it's cool. You get to make your own decisions, empower your own life and plan your own future. Give that all up to follow Someone who's on His way to the Cross? Are you kidding...I watch him walk away...
But I'm staying--for I've found that surrendering my life to Jesus Christ is the smartest thing I can do in life. It makes sense to hand over the keys to Someone who's God, who knows far better than I how to rule my life. "If I Ruled MY World," it'd be one great big mess. And so I gladly place HIM in charge. He's got the keys. His wisdom is mine to call upon, His Will is mine to receive, His path is mine to follow--and I do. I'm not walking away!
So it's cool to be rich, young and a ruler? So may say the world--and riches, youth and leadership CAN be cool, if they're committed to Jesus Christ and used in His Kingdom. Christ could have used this rich young ruler greatly in His Kingdom had he not walked away. He played the part of a fool....a cool fool who had it all and would not give it all to Jesus Christ. I'll not be that kind of fool--how about you!

"Lord, sometimes I am tempted to consider the riches of life, I'm envious of the young in life, and I'd sure like to be in control of my life. But here it is, Lord--be the supreme Ruler of it all. I lay it down, take up my cross and follow You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
