"Wake Up, Jonah - A Whale Is On Its Way!"

How the chemistry class would have warned him, if they could. Just a sleeping student - not Jonah, by the way! A legendary story is told of Dr. Joe Bohanon, organic chem prof at Evangel University - and my infamous husband!! - that one day, a student obviously absent from a crucial chemistry class, was awakened by a knock on his dorm room door, only to find, to his great embarrassment, the professor himself, who'd left class and gone directly to his dorm room to wake him up and get him to class. Bet he never did THAT again!
Ahhh, the blessings of sleep.......it's a sleep of life in a dream world of fantasy and fun, or is it? Could be a nightmare, could be a sleep of death.......really!
Ask poor Jonah, who, in disobedience, then in despair, jumps overboard only to encounter a whale of a problem - a whale itself!
So was Jonah depressed? Is THAT why he fell asleep?? Yikes - I'll leave that to the Christian theologians and psychologists - let me talk about YOU!
Depression is a personal force we reckon with in our stressed-out world. We become so stressed out that we log out of the real world, crash into sleep, then jump overboard like Jonah - OR we cave in and climb under the covers - literally or figuratively - and die to the real world......been there/done that?? Are you there right now??
Well, WAKE UP, Jonah...the Lord is sending a WHALE your way - not to destroy, but to deliver you, you'll see! For, with the help of the Lord, your friends, even a trusted counsellor when necessary, you can arise - to life in Christ, to llfe lived for Him, in Him and through Him. May His Word be healing to your heavy heart today.....nothing - NOTHING - is beyond His help....Don't give up or give in - and for HEAVEN'S SAKE, DON'T go to sleep! HE'S got a plan for you - and it does not include staying inside the whale, hiding under the covers with a heavy, helpless heart!
There's hope and healing for you - today! Believe it, receive it, and rise from your depressed sleep to the destiny God's got for you - it's much better than any dream - or nightmare - and it's sure better than a whale ride! Have a GREAT, uplifting day in the Lord!
