Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way
Ever go attic-sleuthing? What fun to uncover treasures from the past--dress-up clothes, picture albums, antique jewelry, old books, and mysterious items that have no rhyme nor reason in today's world, but must have been very special "way back when." Well, meet Sir Henry, creator of Mr. Hare and Hathi, the jolly elephant; Mughli Ji, the fish; Mrs. Stork, the Cockiobolli bird, and others whose charming stories lay buried in family attics for 60 years. Now discovered by family descendants, Sir Henry has a Web site--and has been introduced as the oldest grandparent on the Web! It's a charming English Web site (ultimategrandparent.com) you will enjoy. The story? Seems that Sir Henry serving as a soldier and administrator in India, dearly loved and sorely missed his four grandchildren in England. He wrote them each week faithfully--illustrated adventure stories, with whimsical art in the tradition and style of Winnie the Pooh or Beatrix Potter. The family's treasures that lay dormant for years in the "early attic" are now "exquisite art" on a Web site known as "ultimategrandparent.com," where a great, great grandson shares the lovely illustrated stories, now treasures of the family, with great pride and joy.
Being a loving grandparent must be an incredible experience of joy and delight...none of the work and all of the pleasure, so I hear! Reminds me of Someone I know who HAS no grandkids....For you see, some of us have grown up in Christian homes, where parents have lovingly taught us the ways of the Lord, but... At some point, we had to make that all-important choice--to become a child of the Father ourselves. And likewise, we can tell our own kids about God, take them to church, train them in godly ways--but THEY must each decide to serve God personally, for...God has no grandkids! Like Sir Henry, God can fondly live in the early attic of our forefather's faith, but it's only when we KNOW Him personally that He becomes a living, loving Heavenly Father to us!
Thank Him today for His grace that has brought you out of the early-attic treasures into a life-transforming, first-hand experience with a Heavenly Father. What a treasure we hold in our hearts. Cherish your faith today--and if you're a GREAT grandma or grandpa (of course, you are!!), go sleuthing with your grandkids in YOUR early attic--and have a GREAT day!
Delight in a Word from the Well--a refreshing in the Water of His Word
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the children of God, even to them that believe on his name (John 1:12 KJV)."Draw from the Well--a prayer for renewing strength for this day
Lord, thank You for the relationship I have with You--that I know You, not afar off, as an early-attic treasure, but I've discovered real life in Your Son--and through Him, I now know YOU! Thanks for your everlasting love which flows down through the ages to generation after generation that we might each know You personally, In Jesus' Name, Amen."
