Hear about the atheist being chased by a bear? (You'll find it in many places on the Internet.*) He ran as fast as he could and ended up with his back against a stone cliff, hands above his head--petrified, as the bear stood growling before him, ready to pounce and end his life.
"God," the atheist prayed, "After 30 years of not believing in You, I don't think it fair that I should change now and ask You to spare my life...but, could You maybe make that bear a Christian?" Presto--the bear becomes a Christian, folds his paws and earnestly prays, "Bless this food which I am about to partake..." You can complete the rest of the story!!
We chuckle at such a silly tale--and yet, how many times do we act as though there is no God to whom WE must give account for our own actions? We face a relational problem and pray, "Lord, change HIM--not ME!" We continue on in our stubborn, set ways, waiting for miracles to happen in that OTHER difficult person--all the while being the REALLY difficult person with whom our patient Heavenly Father has to deal!
Instead of blaming, let's become--become the persons God wants us to be, asking Him to change us first--our impatience, anger, selfishness, pride--you name it, we're full of it! He might--or may NEVER--change that "bear"--but He will surely change US--if we'll let Him! BELIEVE it--let Him begin the make-over process today--and have a wonderful week!
