Saw a sign on a church bulletin board the other day, "Few speeding records are broken when we run from temptation!" Run--or scoot? Heard about the latest craze that's hit the adult world? Scooters aren't just for kids anymore. They're for 58-year-old women whizzing by you on their wild, wacky, wonderful scooters (I know one--honest! She is having the time of her life!); they're for Wall Street executives, Silicon Valley specialists, Philadelphia lawyers--and anyone trying to get somewhere in a hurry! Beats trying to park a car in Manhattan, Wilshire Boulevard, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver or St. Louis--for name your city, SCOOTERS are in the news!
Now, while it's true that you sure won't find SCOOTERS mentioned in the Bible, you WILL find CHARIOTS (see 2 Kings 9:20--Jehu in today's world would probably have a scooter!)-- AND you WILL find "running shoes" recommended! We're told to flee from sexual immorality, from idolatry, from youthful lusts--and, of course, from evil in general, whatever it is! Beware--it's not always a big, bad sin--sometimes, our enemy sneakily attacks to torment our minds and oppress our spirits with depressing or anxious thoughts, with fears and failures; with defeat and despair. He IS a real sneak--and guess what--HE'S got a scooter too--he scoots his best to catch up with us--wherever we are--with his wily, devilish pranks. So what to do?
Well, any kind of running is good--but your tendons, ankles, feet, bodily bulk and energy level may no longer pass a physical--or spiritual--fitness test! It's easy to slow down, ease up, and find that old foe right alongside you, badgering you to death. NO MORE--you've got a motorized SCOOTER--a spiritual scooter--it's the power of the Holy Spirit who will energize you, quicken you and help you speed away safely from the devil's tauntings, terrors and temptations.
So why not USE that scooter HE'S given you! Point it in the direction of the SON--and head down the road of life with discipline, determination and HIS divine power. You will not only out-scoot ole' slewfoot--you'll find delight in the journey--love, joy, peace and power that God alone gives. We're in a race indeed--but we've got high-style, high-powered, high-level, heavenly equipment--so SCOOTERS AWAY! Hop on (read the directions first--they're in HIS WORD!)--keep your eyes on the goal, head for your heavenly home--and scoot away to a wonderful day!
