A couple of years ago, I boarded the plane in St. Louis, bound for San Francisco, excited to be attending an Internet conference. Sat by the window and soon was joined by a young Chinese passenger, working in the USA and headed for Shanghai. We exchanged business cards--he wrote his name in his Chinese language for me--and we enjoyed pleasant conversation.
It wasn't long until I noticed the title of a book he was reading. Now my eyes will only reach "so far and no more" and so, I wasn't sure of the complete title, but I could see that "God" was in it! AND was He EVER in it! As we talked, I discovered he did not believe in anything but had thought this religious philosophical book interesting, and purchased it at the St. Louis airport.
I had the joy to tell him of a personal relationship that was possible with the Lord-- something that went far beyond religion--I recommended C. S. Lewis' book, Mere Christianity and he had me write down the title for him. It was one of those not-by-chance meetings that only God knows where it will go!
BUT that's not the end of the story! I discovered he had Christian friends in Shanghai--and my brain raced to think what I could do. I asked, "Would you do me a favor? Will you take my cards (with the Peggie's Place Web address, of course!) to your Christian friends in Shanghai? And will you take also this "Christianity Today" magazine?" He was happy to do so - and we parted with smiles as we landed in San Francisco and he boarded another plane for a 14-hour trip to Shanghai.
I suddenly realized, very emotionally so, that I had so longed to see the ocean on this trip to the West Coast. I did not know if that dream would come true--but one thing I did NOW know--a young Chinese man, not a Christian himself, was hand-delivering my Christian Web site, and a "Christianity Today" magazine, full of the Gospel message, to Chinese Christians in Shanghai. I might not get to see my beloved ocean this time--but suddenly, it was OK--for a part of me was BEYOND the ocean, bringing to Gospel to the land of China, where I would never in a lifetime be able to go!
Long story--but I want you to enjoy with me the love of a Father who cares for Chinese Christians, in a land far from the freedom we enjoy...and the love of a Father who said, "Peggie, I have a little surprise for you - you are STILL going to get to see that Pacific Ocean anyway!" I did--and hope you will enjoy the photo below--and send out a few prayers for a Chinese young man, and for his Christian friends in a land beyond the ocean but not beyond His care!!
