Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way
Company's Comin'!
What's the famous last (or LOST!) words around Peggie's REAL Place these days? "Company's Comin"--so you'd better straighten up your room, pick up the books and papers, clean up the mess--and mind your manners!" So my kids have been unhappily hearing in recent days, as we prepare to entertain out-of-town family guests next week honoring our oldest son's high school graduation.
What if the guests popped into Peggie's Place unannounced and ended up standing in the middle of the clutter my boys create everywhere they go? Mama would have a red--or at least fuschia--face and the kids would be in big trouble! Why? 'Cause Mom wants her home to look the nicest possible--company's coming!
How would our heart homes look if Jesus came as a guest? Would they be acceptable or cluttered with the things of this world? Would a little anger, hatred, dishonesty or unforgiveness be hiding in a closet? Could we "request the presence of His company" at any time of the day or night? This is not a guilt trip--just a checkpoint for all of us. For you see, we all know that Jesus is NOT just a guest--He LIVES in our hearts; He KNOWS what's there and what needs to be straightened up. And He watches to see what we'll do. I'd like His smile of approval on my heart-housecleaning expertise, wouldn't you?
So let's all get out the brooms, the dust cloths, the cleansing solutions, the vacuum--ugh! Doesn't sound like fun--but COMPANY'S COMIN'--no, JESUS is here--and we want our heart homes to look the best for Him! He cares--and so should we! Believe it--and have a great housecleaning day!
Delight in a Word from the Well--a refreshing in the Water of His Word
"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me (Psalm 51:10)."
"Having, therefore, these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (2 Corinthians 7:1)."
Draw from the Well--a prayer for renewing strength for this day
"Lord, turn Your searchlight on my heart home this day. Point out the clutter and the cobwebs; and help me clean it up! You deserve to live in a home that is sparkling clean--not by my standards nor my perfection, but by Your grace and mercy. Help me trash the "junk" from the rooms--and closets--of my heart; may no place be off limits to Your holy presence. Lord, be more than just a "guest" in my home--please be the resident ruler of my heart this day--and every day. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
