OK, here comes the football expert runnin' down the field - which way do I GO??? I have no idea what I am doing, except I know I saw it with my own eyes and felt it in my own bones! WOW - what a championship game between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants......a contest of biblical proportion if you've ever been to Sunday School and heard about David and the giant!Who's supposed to beat a GIANT? Certainly not a little David....and most certainly, not an underdog in a competitive field called football even if your name IS "Giant." But it happened......and it happened......both are true stories of great proportion, especially when you're about to write a devo about it all!
You see, in life, there are champions and then there are CHAMPIONS.....teams and team players who go way beyond what's believable and into the realms of fantasy, had we not seen and heard it with our own eyes! Now, aged though I am according to my sassy sons (!!), I was NOT there to witness the biblical spectacle of "Only a Boy Named David" (remember that Sunday school song??) But I've read my Bible, I've been to Sunday school, I believe God's Word, and I know that it happened....as did that fantastic game in Phoenix!
Come along with me and let's look at the DNA of a Bible champion...get ready to roll (...that's bowling, excuse me!) at the 50-yard line, ten yards at a time!
He's F aithful, A ssured, I nspired, T ough and H eart-strong! Now return to the 50-yard line, wherever that is, and head the OTHER way, ten yards at a time! A champion is C onsistent, C onfident, C ourageous, has deep C onviction, and an undaunted C ommitment to win! Any player headed the RIGHT way (!!) will score a touchdown. It's in the DNA of a champion! The New York Giants did it - and David did it too. Now you won't find the word "touchdown" in your Bible concordance, but believe me, David earned it in his fight and ultimate win with the "undefeatable, unbeatable" giant in his life - and you can too!!
So what's the giant in your life today? Fear? Doubt? Depression? Anger? Lack of confidence? Perhaps it's a health issue or a job loss; spiritual or even marital "warfare!" Whatever's going on, I've got a champion's secret for you....it's found in a Person. Jesus Christ, the Champion of all time and eternity, has defeated all the devils and demons in hell. He is Victor over death, hell and the grave. And it's found in His Word: "He is the author and finisher of our F-A-I-T-H." It's HIS game plan and He's already won!
Reclaim your DNA - the stuff God created in you "in the beginning" (or is that baseball - chuckle!) Believe it, begin or restore that right relationship with Him; know His forgiveness and love; live by the rules of His game - and if you're already a Christian, you ARE a champion. Believe it, act like it, run (OK, that's track, I know....) with vigor for the finish line. You are HIS champion with HIS DNA - He created you, He loves you, He's the author and finisher of YOUR faith and will be with you to the end.
Scripture: Hebrews 12:2 (KJV).
Extra points: Do a Bible study on F-A-I-T-H or the Five "C's" - score for David, Jesus, and YOU!

A BONUS SMILE: FOOTBALL IN THE FALL...BY A PASTOR! Football in the fall. Basketball in the winter. Baseball in the spring and summer.
This pastor has been an avid sports fan all his life. But I've had it! I quit this sports business once and for all.
You can't get me near one of those places again. Want to know why...*Every time I went, they asked me for money.
*The people with whom I had to sit didn't seem very friendly.
*The seats were too hard and not at all comfortable.
*I went to many games, but the coach never came to call on me.
*The referee made a decision with which I could not agree.
*I suspected that I was sitting with some hypocrites --
they came to see their friends and what others were wearing rather than to see the game.*Some games went into overtime, and I was late getting home.
*The band played some numbers that I had never heard before.
*It seems that the games are scheduled when I want to do other things.
*I was taken to too many games by my parents when I was growing up.
*I don't want to take my children to any games, because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like best.
