Harry Potter is the hot topic around town these days--kids and parents are "gobbling" it up--the movie, the books, the toys, now a new book release--it's everywhere! Is it OK? Do I let my kids see it? read it? play with the toys? What in the world is a Christian parent to do?
I'm not here to give you a "yes" or "no" answer, although I've got my personal opinion--do I dare give it? I personally don't believe "Harry Potter," however cute and charming, has a place in the lifestyle of a Christian family. The occult is too deadly and dark a "game" to tinker with--not even for fun! I prefer family values and activities that lift up the Light of the World rather than the dark of the world--any day!
But then that's just MY opinion...talk to another Christian and you may get a completely sincere and different opinion from his perspective. Christians swing both ways on this one--some think Harry is great; others won't give him houseroom. I'm here to help--to give you LOTS of LINKS from the Christian world on the Web--and then let you make an educated and prayerful decision on your own. So let's put on our Christian armor, follow the Potter trail and see what we find!

The fevered frenzy in its wake
is hard to understand.
It sells for almost thirty bucks.
It's written just for kids.
Some Christians think it should be banned,
while others ask "what gives?"
But no one likely would debate
the power of a story
to teach the truth of God and life
and of salvation's glory.
With parables and factual yarns
the teller draws us in.
A well-told story drives a point
and makes us look within.
So whether he's a friend or foe
of your young son or daughter,
you can't deny that lives are touched
when folks read Harry Potter.
