Welcome to Tower of Strength
Written by Peggie C. Bohanon
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous runneth into it, and is safe (Proverbs 18:10)."

A Christian crisis devotional in light of the tragedy of terrorism that shook the world on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, New York City, and the Pentagon, Washington, D. C. May HIS Name be OUR "Tower of Strength" in the days ahead. Be uplifted as you read this devotional, published semi-weekly (each Tuesday and Friday) for your inspiration and encouragement.
An Encouraging Word for Times Like These
"Angels All Around!"
Angels...I've always believed in them, but never did I feel my need for them more than last week! You see, I was scheduled to fly to Chicago and back, attending a Gospel.comconference, rescheduled from the fateful week that included 9-11. Now we all know everyone is back flying again...or are they?Well, not exactly, but I'm a Christian; therefore, I should not fear, right? Wrong--we are Christians in human bodies with human emotions, and the really, really strong Christians may not fear--but ME? I was a little SCARED, honest! Of course, I know my life is in God's hands - I know all the verses, and so do you, yet when an event like 9-11 impacts our world, we have to re-think DEEP in our hearts the faith to which we hold!
I DID--and a Christian friend sent me a wonderful faith-builder:
D. L. Moody used to say there are two ways to go to heaven: "First Class" and "Coach". Coach is Psalm 56:3: "Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You."But First Class is Isaiah 12:3:
"Behold God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid."I decided that I would board my TWA flight--but only with a batallion of angels to guard my way. The morning I flew, I found the verse, "In the Lord, I have righteousness and strength (Psalm 86:19)." I told my logical, feet-on-the-ground husband that I now had two bodyguards, one angel named Righteousness on one side, and another named Strength on the other side. He quickly corrected my theology to explain that these were concepts and not names of angels--grin--but it was good enough for me!
Thank God, I had wonderful flights both to and from Chicago--and no problems. Now I didn't know how much carry-on luggage my angel companions would have, but I was told that they "travel lightly"--and they did. Matter of fact, they were such fine companions, I think I'll invite them NEXT time I travel--now if they only did email.....grin!
The funniest part was when I visited the Wheaton College campus and was able to view the delightful C. S. Lewis Exhibit--and to purchase a big yellow button with G. K. Chesterton's photo, angel wings super-imposed on his back, and his quote, "Angels fly because they can take themselves lightly!" THIS button got me "buzzed" in airport security and I had to remove it in order to pass through.....pretty funny--those were apparently a band of pretty powerful angels!
My guardian angels make a good story--but it's more than a story. It's Biblical--read it for yourself in Psalm 91--and next time, you must travel, fear NOT--God will send His guardian angels to "keep you in all your ways." Our God is faithful--He knows when we are frightened, and if He needs to reassure us even with a little humor, He'll do it--and He'll be there! He's got angels all around--now believe it--and have a great day!
...and that's just a faith-filled thought or two from my heart to yours!

A song and a prayer for His all-sufficient grace
Psalm 91:1-16
Brother to Brother--from Songs of Praise.
"Lord, thank You for remembering we are really just "dust" and we DO get afraid. Thank You for the many assurances in Your Word that there ARE angels all around us to keep us in all our ways. May we rely on Your Word, knowing that it is the true, authoritative Word of a Living God and we can fully trust its message and its Source, In Jesus' Name, Amen."
