Welcome to Tower of Strength
Written by Peggie C. Bohanon
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous runneth into it, and is safe (Proverbs 18:10)."
Miss a past devo? See Tower of Strength Archives.
A Christian crisis devotional in light of the tragedy of terrorism that shook the world on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center, New York City, and the Pentagon, Washington, D. C. May HIS Name be OUR "Tower of Strength" in the days ahead. Be uplifted as you read this devotional, published semi-weekly (each Tuesday and Friday) for your inspiration and encouragement.
An Encouraging Word for Times Like These
"Our Father...!"
A family called the world is hurting today. We all hurt--but especially the children. We've sung all our lives, "Jesus loves the little children" and now WE see what HE sees--little faces of all races and creeds, here at home and around the world--eyes filled with sadness, anxiety, sometimes hunger and pain--but always fear. We weep for them. What can we do to help them? Many teachers and parents in the USA and other parts of our world have already figured it out. They are helping the kids focus on the positive--writing letters, drawing pictures, sending "thank yous" to the firefighters and police personnel working around the clock untirelessly and unselfishly....even while in their own grief and pain.
Counselors pour into our schools and churches to listen to the kids, to love them, to provide some comfort and assurance to them--to help in whatever way they can. Why? Because we're all family--we all hurt, we all share the hurt--but we can all help, in some way, to reach out and heal.
We're grateful for human help--whether it's a parent, a pastor, a counselor, a spouse or charity organization--we join hands and pull together to lift up one another, to support, to console, to encourage, and yes, even to cry with someone, when words aren't enough. But--we're human...we need help from outside outselves--it's all too much to bear....is there ANYONE bigger than any of us to fill that role?
Yes! There's a Heavenly Father looking down on a suffering town today--with grief, sorrow, sadness, compassion and love. He looks down on YOUR "town" too--He reaches out to you to say, "I love you. I care. I will be with you."
Just like an earthly parent who cares for his kids, so our Lord watches over us, HIS kids. He knows what's going on--inside us, around us, above us, below us--He is everywhere--the omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God who says, "Fear not, My child--I will never, never leave you; I will never, never forsake you--I am with you alway even unto the end of the world."
So what to do? Run to Father today - let Him hold you and your family in His everlasting arms--arms of a REAL Dad--warm, consoling, comfortable, secure, loving and strong--HE cares for His family, HE loves His world--believe it and place your total trust in Him this day!
...and that's just a faith-filled thought or two from my heart to yours!

A Scripture reading from His Word, our Strength
A song and a prayer for His all-sufficient grace
"As a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him (Psalm 103:13)."
I Believe - by Norma Stephenson --from Songs of Praise.
"Lord, we are living in scary times--Christians and non-Christians are frightened, afraid, and feel unsafe! Let us look to You, the Author and Finisher of our faith, knowing that in YOU we will find the peace and faith we need. YOU will never tire, falter or fail, and as we put our trust in You, neither will we, In Jesus' Name, Amen."
