Words From the Well!
Back to the future....I mean, the past....do you remember what the policeman always carried in his hand? A great, big fat stick, of course! And no one likes great big fat sticks, especially when you're guilty and know you deserve it!The marvelous grace of our Lord and King provides us freedom to live, to love, and to learn. But there's ONE more that's EASY to forget. He also gives us freedom to LAUGH--at our troubles, our trials, AND ourselves. Got an assignment for you AND for me--let's lighten up and ask the Lord to help us find ONE funny thing in the middle of some "heavy stuff" we're going through--there may be nothing funny ABOUT it at all, but let's look for a smile in the senseless things of life, and I'm sure we'll find it. Humor and laughter and two of God's great stress-relievers--remember, with God's sceptre of grace and a smile or two, we ARE going to make it!Do I deserve grace? No way...and that's why I love God's Word...it's real. It tells stories of people just like me who deserved a great stick of justice and got a great sceptre of grace. "Grace greater than all our sins." It was great enough for Thomas who doubted his Lord. It was great enough for Peter who denied his Lord. And it's great enough for me! So, devil, put away the picture of the policeman with the great stick of justice. Holy Spirit, bring to my heart the picture of a Father-King, with the golden sceptre of grace. It's not what I deserve--it's what my Savior paid for, I have appropriated it by faith, and it is mine!
A Helping Word...or Two! Free to Live! "Life is difficult." That's the first sentence in a bestseller by Scott M. Peck, and it's so true--life IS difficult! We face decisions, disappointments, discouragements every day, and sometimes we blow it! We live in an imperfect world with imperfect people--that includes me and heaven forbid, you! We all need the Lord's grace on days when there doesn't seem to be enough patience to go around. We lose it--and then watch for the Heavenly Policeman with the big stick! Well, you won't find Him--for He's a Heavenly King with a blessed sceptre, and He holds it out to YOU today. He knows all about you and your world. He knows your desire to live for Him--and He understands. So don't hit YOURSELF with the big stick either. Run to your Lord, tell it to Jesus, and KNOW His grace IS greater than all your sin! You are free to live--for it's all by grace, HIS grace!
"Love covers a multitude of sins." That's a verse in God's Word and it's so true. His love "looks beyond our faults and sees our need." I'm glad, because I just happen to have a lot of faults....just ask the people who live with me! And before you smile too widely, ask the people who live with YOU! We're human...let's admit it. A saint I ain't...but for God's grace! So when my Heavenly King holds out the sceptre of grace, He frees me to love...myself, my family, my friends, my foes....imperfect people for sure, but HIS love has every ounce of grace I need. I'm free to CHOOSE to love difficult people even when it is difficult, and that takes grace! But the sceptre, held out to me, is also one, by God's grace, I can hold out to them. And when I mess up and dare to act like the human being I really am? The King's sceptre doesn't turn into a stick...I must remember that and rejoice! HIS grace IS greater than all my sins, and I am free to love--for it's ALL by grace, HIS grace! Free to Love!
Free to Learn! "You're never too old to learn." Another quote I learned somewhere...and it's true! His Word teaches me and helps me grow in His ways. His grace never gives up on me, and when I've not learned a lesson the first time, He lovingly repeats it, again and again. And if I fail a test? There's no Heavenly Policeman to scare me with the great big stick. There's a Heavenly King to secure me with a sceptre of grace. Grace that I might sin again and again, with no inclination to serve Him? No way--He will not force His Kingly rule upon any of us. But for those subjects who CHOOSE to serve Him, the sceptre is there, held out in perfect love to imperfect children. It is beneath the covering of that sceptre we learn and we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Yes, it IS grace greater than all our sins, and we are free to learn--for it's ALL by grace, HIS grace!
...and that's just a thought or two--from my beat to yours!
"...My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness...(2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV)."
"Lord, I need to appropriate Your grace in my life. Grace enough to stop condemning myself, grace enough to accept myself, and grace enough to carry on! Thank You for the marvelous gift of grace You offer me. I receive it now. In Jesus Name, Amen."
Please e-mail me to say hi--and sign my guestbook too! Have a great day serving the Lord!
