Note: This devo was written some time ago during one of the many Middle East conflicts - little did we in America know how applicable it would be to us, on our own shores, in September 2001. May this devo bring comfort from the Prince of Peace to your heart today.
A Hurting Word...
And so, until then, when he's not sitting, he's roaming...as a lion king over all the earth, seeking whom he may devour--be it world powers, church bodies, local communities, blended families, traditional families or individuals of all races and creeds. He's not through...but neither is the Peacemaker! Come to the Well and meet Him, the Resurrected Lord; find overcoming power and the peace of God to meet your soul and the situations in your life today. Peace in the world can begin in YOUR heart--that's where it really starts!
A Helping Word...or
Two!
The Peacemaker and the World Within You
There's a secret world deep inside--where no one can see--no one but the Peacemaker and you! He knows the internal turmoils--the anxieties, failures and fears; the anger, strife, and pain--and He waits for you to open wide the door of your heart. Let Him in...He will work wonders on the inner parts of your spirit and soul. That's His mission--not only to come into your heart, but to change it, to make you more like Himself each day. He only needs the key...
The prince of the pit will put up a fight! You see, he doesn't want you to surrender any keys of any of the rooms of your heart to the Lord. He wants to hold you hostage, locked up tightly with all the negative forces of his world--anger, fear, hostility, resentment, unforgiveness, depression and more. But HE'S not the boss of your life, only of the PIT...so surrender--and let God, the eternal Peacemaker have control. You'll have peace and the prince of the pit will have to flee--in Jesus' Name!
The Peacemaker and the World Around You
There's a special world around you--that of your family, your friends, your work associates, the people with whom you rub shoulders day to day. Sometimes that world is wonderful--you enjoy loving relationships, warm friendships and pleasant comraderie. Sometimes it falls apart--and that's where the Peacemaker waits, at the edge of your falling-apart frame of mind and heart. He knows the brokenness, the shattering of relationships, the warring factors with the people you love--and He knows how to fix a broken heart. He only needs the key...
The Peacemaker and the World Beyond You
There's a great, big world beyond you--it gets closer and closer, as its "wars and rumors of wars" invade the privacy of our very homes. You can't escape the blaring TV nightly news reports of the lastest bombings, terrorism, murders and mayhem happening in our world today. For if you miss it at night, you'll hear it in the morning or at noon--you'll read it in the papers, see it on TV, hear it in the workplace. Our world is sick--it's terminal--and no diplomats, however sincere or skillful, can restore peace and harmony among nations on any kind of permanent basis. Only the Peacemaker, upon His return, will bring with Him enduring peace to the world.
...Until then, the prince of the pit plagues on, all over the world. When one skirmish is settled, another starts. The threats and the terrorism increase--and men's hearts fail them for fear. Someday it will all be over--someday soon the Prince of Peace, the Peacemaker of time and eternity, will appear on the scene. The prince of perdition will be forever vanquished to his rightful place, the pit itself, and the Peacemaker will reign forevermore.

All eyes are on the Middle East--the eyes of every Christian are, or should be, upon the Peacemaker of heaven and earth, for only HE can bring lasting peace within the hearts of men, spilling over into real peace in the lands where they live. May we pray for the peace of Jerusalem...but more so, pray for the peace of God to reign in men's hearts everywhere. The only real peace to be found is at the feet of the Prince of Peace, where someday, every knee will bow and every tongue proclaim that He is Lord.
"Look up, lift up your heads, for your redemption draweth nigh!" Christ is coming soon--but until that glorious day, let Him, the Peacemaker, fill your present world with His peace--peace within you and around you, peace that will spread to the world beyond you as you proclaim His Name and His Power wherever you go!
In the meantime, down in the pit he sits--as prince of the pit, pit boss of hell--watching the process, disturbing the process, trying to control the process, trying to destroy the process--whether it's in the Middle East or in the middle of your life! He's already tried to destroy the Peacemaker--and he's failed, thank God--but he's not through UNTIL he's through. When? Only heaven knows. God holds "eternity's timetable" in His hand and He knows exactly when the dark prince of the pit will be chained and throw eternally into his own pit.
Sure, the old pit prince will put up a fight! He doesn't want peaceful relationships to exist in anyone's life. He reigns in a pit where strife, turmoil, dissension and division are part of the game--and he's out to win. But win, he won't--not when you've given your life to the Peacemaker, when you know Him personally and invite Him directly into the situations you face. The world around us can turn topsy-turvy in a minute--but HE will be right on time to step right in and take over. You'll have peace within as you--and the Lord--face the forces that oppose in the world around you--and the prince of the pit will have to flee--in Jesus' Name!"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."
"Lord, peace is not reigning in my life today. It is the "pits" and I'm tired of letting the "prince of the pit" boss me around. Here, take the keys of my life; be Lord of all--within me, around me, and in my world, let me shine for You, the Prince of Peace, In Jesus' Name, Amen.Your Weekly Assignment: Read Words from the Well poem and let the Lord minister to you.
He will, I promise! He is a faithful God and will be faithful to you today!
