A Hurting Word...
"It's ten o'clock...do you know where your children are?" Remember that TV one-liner from long ago? Well, not THAT long ago--but our kids think we are ancient, so it IS ancient history to them. But it was a gentle reminder that parents KNOW the whereabouts of their kids. We joked about it, but I'm glad I had parents who cared. I hope you did too!
Whatever kind of family we have originated from--weird or wonderful; silly or sad, there is a big family of God to which we now belong, and HE knows who we are, where we are, and how we feel. Better yet, He knows exactly what to do to take total care of His beloved children! Come to the Well, and let's find out!
A Helping Word...or Two!
He knows who we are!...Our parents did! They knew every nook and cranny of our clever little minds; they knew what we said, why we said it; what we did, why we did it--they didn't miss a trick. Or did they...grin... Parents have a way of "knowing" each child, whether there are two or ten! I know each one of my sons...at least I am "trying" to understand what makes them tick...'cause I'm a parent, and I care!
And so does God! He knows our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual make-up very well..and why shouldn't He? He made us...and we can trust Him. For you see, we're His kid...He loves us...and He knows!
"As a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust (Psalm 103:13,14. KJV)."
He knows where we are!..Our parents did...sometimes! I remember calling after a wriggly, crawling Jason as he sped on all fours around our home--this tiny little creature would sometimes lose me, but I always found him. He was my KID--I wanted to know where he was! Now our boys are teens, and I still want to know where they are, where they are going...and probably, when I have to pick them up! But I'm a parent--and I care!
And so does HE! He knows exactly where we are--whether it is on the mountaintop of joy or the valley of despair; whether it's the pits or the palace; He KNOWS and He cares. He is watching--and will not let you stay there one minute longer than needful. Someday when His wonderful plan unfolds, you will understand that He KNEW, all along. For you see...you're HIS kid...He loves you...and He KNOWS!
"But he knoweth the way that I take; when he hath tested me, I shall come forth as gold (Job 23:10 KJV)."
He knows how we feel!...Our parents did...NOT! Often they had no idea of the inner struggles we faced as children, teens, even young adults. They loved us, but could not see deep within our hearts. Sometimes their sixth sense worked, and sometimes it didn't. And the saga continues...for sometimes, with our sons, the sixth sense works; other times I badly blow it! But I AM a parent, and I do care!
And so does He! He knows exactly how we feel--more than any human being ever will. He knows every thought, every distress, every delight, every pain. It's my testimony, just this week, as I dealt with a disappointment in my own life. I had just poured my heart out to a friend via e-mail, hit the "send" button, and...I am going to leave you hanging, just for a minute...I love suspense...
He knows what to do!
Drama proceeds! Drama it was, for this is what He did! As one letter went out, another came in:
"I know that I have written to you before, but i just wanted to let you
know how blessed i have been by your site. I visit it almost every day,
and I still haven't explored all of it yet.
I just wanted to let you know that I believe the Lord wanted me to tell
you these things because you might need a shot in the arm just about now.
He also wanted me to give you one of my favorite scriptures, but I think
it might be one of yours as well.
Isaiah 40:30-31."
Thanks, Laura, for being obedient to the Holy Spirit. You didn't know, but HE did, and He knew what to do about it! That's our God. He is never puzzled nor distressed as to how to handle a situation, no matter how difficult. Many times we have not a clue what to do; He is never clueless. For we're His kids...He loves us...and He knows EXACTLY what to do!
And that, friends, is the basis for this week's devotional. I was so moved and blessed by the Lord's amazing love, by His awesome knowledge of how I felt...it was as though an angel delivered a message to me right from the throne room of God, the very moment I needed it.
And I'm no more special than YOU. He knows exactly who you are, where you are, and how you feel. Better still, He knows what to do! For you're His Kid...He loves you...and He knows!
And that's just a word or two--from my heart to yours!
