Four a.m.--and the world sleeps. But not all--and not me! For I joined millions of others, who, via television in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 6, 1997, shared in the tragic loss of the beautiful, young Princess Diana of Wales. I was touched by the genuine outpouring of grief and love for one who had shown care and compassion to so many. Our prayers are with the Royal Family, and especially her young sons, Princes William and Harry.
Elton John's moving rendition of "Candle in the Wind" at the memorial service has caused me to reflect on my own Christian values, life, and mortality. Am I, a born-again Christian, merely a "Candle in the Wind," or is there more? Has God placed a lighted candle in my life that will never go out? Come to the Well, and let's find out.
A Helping Word...or Two!
Candle on the Hill!...It's there, burning brightly through the ages--the Light of the Cross whose beams radiate across all time, and into my life. I've found Jesus, the Light of the World, and His Light shines into the darkest corners of my life. It searches, reveals, cleanses; and it brings me salvation. It shines its light on the pathway of my life and brings me joy. It lights a candle in my soul, and draws me upwards to its Eternal Flame, then chooses me to reflect that light to my world. It's a candle of His love--and it will shine forever!
"...I am the light of the world; he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life (John 8:12 KJV)."
Candle of the Heart!...It's there, burning brightly through the ages--the warmth of the Holy Spirit has warmed my spirit, quietly working to bring an inner beauty and thirst for godliness into the depths of my being. His Holy Spirit lights a flame of passion for God in my heart--I seek Him, I long for His presence, I thirst for His Word. He works in my life to make it a reflection of Jesus Christ--sometimes the heat and flame is intense, but I know He is shaping my life to further shed forth God's warmth and beauty to a dark, cold world. He lights a candle in my spirit, as He works within me to reflect the love of Christ. It's a candle of His warmth--and it will burn forever!

Candle in the Night!...It's there, breaking through the darkness of our world--the glory of the Father shed abroad in our hearts that we might touch a world with His light and life. For when the light of the Son has shone into my life, when the warmth of His Spirit has created a passion for God within me, I am compelled to take my candle into the night, into the world around me, breaking into the darkness with the Light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He lights a candle within me so I may radiate His life and joy to all I meet. He helps me bring glory to the Father, the eternal Flame of my world. It's a candle of life--His everlasting life--and it will shine forever!

Candle of love...candle of life--not a passing flame that shines and flickers quickly away...no, it's a candle for time and for eternity. For Jesus is the eternal candle of my life--He lights my candle and guards it with His ever watchful eye. May I ever shine for Him; may my life ever be a reflection of His great love for me.
Only one life--
Lord let it be
Filled with thy love,
Then poured out for Thee!
