I remember it well--I was making meatballs, when my world suddenly went wild! My five-year-old, after a couple of attempts to get my attention, finally said, "You better come downstairs--Jason did something!" Now when Jason, as a toddler, did ANYTHING, you took notice...and as I ran downstairs to the family room, I could not believe my eyes. The garden hose, with its sprinkler system full-blast, was watering the rug, the ceiling, the LIVE T.V., and in the middle of it all, were two little frogs--well, MY sons--dancing around in the water--it's a wonder they were not electrocuted!
I went into full-speed ahead, throwing the sprinkler out of the room, calling my neighbor in panic, who came to my rescue with PAMPERS, as we "mopped" up the mess! And what a mess--the scars on our ceiling yet today remind us of that day and that flood...and while it remains in our book of memories as a tale to tell over and over, it is nothing compared to a REAL story of the REAL floods that have happened this week along the riverbed in Davenport, Iowa, and other towns in the Midwest. Talk about a flood--these poor people know the terror and trauma of homes destroyed, personal belongings wiped out, and property ravaged. Our thoughts, prayers and love are with them.
Maybe you've never been in a flood...or have you? The kind of flood that doesn't need high boots, a raincoat, a rescue team and a rowboat--the kind of emotional flood that rages through your life in all the fury of the world's worst spill. It might be a family crisis, a financial need, a frustrated circumstance, or whatever--and it's about to overwhelm you. It's not the fun of a two-year-old's mischief, or the frantic spill of a river's banks--it's deep in your soul and you are about to drown.
Don't give up - remember that HE, our Lord, sitteth KING over the floods--HE rules, not the enemy. God's Word reminds us, "When the enemy comes in like a FLOOD, the Spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against him." So - whatever flood you are facing today, ride it out--HE rides with you; you're not going to drown. You're not going down. You're the delight of HIS heart and He will see you through.
Believe it--let Him whisper "Peace, be still" to you today. Trust His Word and His promises--pray for the flood victims--and of course, keep an eye on that two-year-old if you've got one--and have a wonderful day!
