Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way
Rollercoasters 'n Righteousness!
So what do rollercoasters and righteousness have in common? NOTHING--and that's the point! Now you're not going to catch ME on one of those wild rides, but I watched them in a Discovery Channel TV special one evening. I was fascinated--not enough to ride one--but enough to get a devotional out of it for us all!
You see, riding rollercoasters is what we do in real life! One minute we're high in the sky, the next we've hit rock bottom. We may ride along smoothly down the track for a while, then suddenly there's a climb and a jolt and a few screams as we head downward and leave our tummy at the top! (I USED to ride on rare occasions, so I KNOW...honest!) Well, our spiritual life is no different. We experience great moments with the Lord, usually followed by a sudden drop as gravity takes hold and we end up in the valley. We despair, we fret, we wonder why.....I know why....
It's because we're human! "We have this treasure in earthen vessels" and the "earthen" vessels are emotional.....The TREASURE is not. God's righteousness never moves an inch. It remains solid, sturdy and stedfast. Your life is "hid with Christ in God" and no matter how your emotions topsy-turvy within you, His righteousness within you is intact. Cling to that fact today--and every day--as you ride the rollercoaster of life. He's with you, you can depend on His never-changing Word to handle your always-changing moods. Believe it--and have a "great adventure" with HIM today!

"Lord, sometimes I feel like I really am on a rollercoaster of faith. One second I'm up, the next I'm down, with whats-to-come anxiety in between! The curves and tunnels and upside-downs of a real rollercoaster are what I feel in my own spiritual life....the ride gets pretty wild. But Lord, YOU know all about it. You made me and my emotions...You love me and declare me righteous, whether I'm up, down, inside out or upside down. Thank You, Lord, for Your all-emcompassing righteousness which rules my life this day. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
