It was 12:30 a.m., Sunday morning, and while the rest of the family, including two feisty teens, were sacked out in our lovely weekend getaway place at Tan-Tar-A, Lake of the Ozarks, this AGED woman, one hour into her new decade of living (also known as a birthday), couldn't sleep and was composing this devotional and consuming a favorite snack, both at the same time--never mind which one got the most votes...grin!
The news will hardly put you to sleep these days and while I am not about to become political, I just knew there must be a devotional in it somewhere--except for the obvious, serious need to pray for our nation, the USA. You see, I've decided there is a REAL recount going on at MY place--and your place--too. Let's skip over to election headquarters and check it out!
I am recounting my BLESSINGS! God has been so good--let me count the ways! I can't--and neither can you--try it! Just look back and count the MANY times He has abundantly given us MORE than material things or anything money could buy--His love, joy, peace, grace, mercy, forgiveness--and the list goes on. Ten THOUSAND fingers aren't enough to hand-count His bountiful goodness; man's machines can't do it either, as we recount, minute by minute, His care and love for us--a lifetime's worth!
I am recounting my BURDENS too! Looking back over past problems and perplexities, I now see the hand of God that brought me through and made me a better person because of it. He's taken the hurts of life and turned them into healing for others--those ballots are never wasted! He's done it for me--and I know He's done it for you too! We have a testimony to share with the world--because of the faithfulness of our Lord.
BUT...someone else is watching over my shoulder. He is the trickster of all time who wants to recount my BLUNDERS--and yours too! Past mistakes, present faults, and a future full of what he predicts will be inevitable error! Don't believe a word he says--he does not have your good at heart. Our sins and mistakes, our faults and failures have been forever DISCOUNTED and DISCARDED by the Heavenly King; the votes are INVALID and tossed out; we've been forgiven, thank God!
The recount is successful at Peggie's Place and yours too! GOD wins, as He always has, does, and will--let's bless His Name today that, above all, our names are written in, punched in, printed in the election rolls of heaven. Don't worry if the punch has gone through--whether your "chad" is an indentation, a dimple, a hanging door or pregnant--He's registered your intent and your vote correctly, and that's all that counts. He, the God of the universe, claims you as His own and will see you through to victory. Believe it - you can COUNT on it - now go have a great day!
